Client Background

Merrill Gardens owns and operates senior living communities with a focus on lifestyle. Each Merrill Gardens community is different in physical structure, reflecting the characteristics of the area where it is located and the needs of residents. The management and resources of the R. D. Merrill Company ensure high standards of service and long-term commitment to quality, security, choice and privacy in all Merrill Gardens communities.

This long time family company has roots that extend back to the 1890’s when R.D. Merrill came to the Pacific Northwest to establish timber holdings. In 1993 Merrill Gardens was conceived when the company purchased a retirement community in Seattle, Washington. The company has become one of the most respected senior living companies in the country. Merrill Gardens is still a privately owned family run company; Chairman Charlie Wright is a fourth generation Merrill family member. In 2010 Merrill Gardens entered into a joint venture agreement with long term partner Health Care REIT.

Merrill Gardens has been honored to be named the Family Business of the Year three times by the Family Business Institute for the company’s commitment to a quality lifestyle for senior residents. Merrill Gardens is, above all, a company dedicated to quality and built on a strong foundation of family, community, long-term commitment and entrepreneurial spirit.
